Clayton Owen Memorial Carnival

This carnival is held each November and is one of our most memorable carnivals for the season.  The event is usually our first carnival of the new swimming season.  The carnival is a six way meet with each club having one representative in each event.  Events include individual races, relays and also includes the most prestigious Parent Relay.

This carnival first started in 1995 and is in memorial of one of Somerset Hills Swimming Club’s most successful swimmers  - Clayton Owen.

Clayton achieved success as swimming champion at his various schools, as part of the Australian Secondary School team that travelled to Belgium in 1990, was a Qld State School swim champion in butterfly from 1989- 1991 and was ranked in the top 3 in Qld for butterfly between 1988 and 1991.

Each year the club is honoured to have Clayton’s parents Lyn and Don Owen present the winning club with their trophy and the Clayton Owen Shield.

Somerset Hills swimmers are selected for this carnival based on times achieved in the current season.
