Learn to Swim

Beginners – Tadpoles (4 in a class/30mins)

Our Tadpole level is a beginning level of LTS catering for children ages 3 years and up. Tadpole Swimmers will learn:

  •          Kicking with the board. (Hands on bottom of board, chin down, bubbles, straight arms and legs, little kicks.)
  •          Streamline kicking on front. (Chin down, straight legs and arms)
  •          Freestyle arms with board. (Hands on bottom of board, chin down, hands passing leg and arm passing ears)
  •          Freestyle arms. (As above)
  •          Streamline kicking on back. (Arms by side if needed, tummy up)
  •          Starfish floating on front and back. (10 sec)
  •          Kicking on mat. ( front and back)
  •          Dolphin kick. (Arms down)
  •          Dive toy

Beginners – Squid (5 in a class/30mins)

The Squid level of our program is the first progression. Squid Swimmers will learn:

  •          Kicking with the board. (Hands on bottom of board, chin down, bubbles, straight arms and legs, little kicks.)
  •          Kicking with one hand on board. (Breathing to ONE side, repeat breathing to other side, chin down) Bubble                  breathe.
  •          Freestyle arms with board. (Breathing to one side, repeat breathing to other side) 1, 2, 3 arms and breathe.                Starting with arm furthest from instructor.
  •          Freestyle arms. (Breathing as above)
  •          Streamline kicking on back. (Tummy up, head back, little kicks)
  •          Backstroke. (Arm passing leg and ear. Use board over knees if necessary)
  •          Streamline dolphin kick. (Adding underwater arms)
  •          Diving

Intermediate – Platypus (5 in a class/30mins)

The intermediate level of our program is Platypus. Platypus swimmers will learn:

  •          Kicking with the board. (Hands on bottom of board, chin down, bubbles, straight arms and legs, little kicks.)
  •          Kicking with one hand on board. (Breathing to ONE side, repeat breathing to other side, chin down) Bubble                  bubble breathe. (This drill is good for all classes. Even squad)
  •          Freestyle arms with board. (Introduce bilateral breathing) 1, 2, 3 arms, breathe to right. Repeat breathing left.
  •          Repeat above - no board. (Chin down)
  •          Streamline kicking on back. (Tummy up, head back, little kicks)
  •          Backstroke. (Arm passing leg and ear)
  •          Streamline Butterfly kick. (chin down)
  •          Butterfly (Arms out of water, breathing every 3 rd stroke)
  •          Breaststroke legs with board. (Heels touching bottom)
  •          Diving

Advanced – Dolphin 30mins

Our advanced level of learn to swim is Dolphins, here swimmers will be expected to be able to perform 25m of freestyle and backstroke competently. Breaststroke and Butterfly kicks and drills are introduced and correct diving technique is established. Tumble turns are also introduced in our Dolphin’s level. 

Transition– Dolphin  45mins

Our transition to Squad  level of learn to swim is Sharks, here swimmers will be expected to be able to perform 25m of all strokes competently. Further stroke drills are introduced and correct diving technique is reinforced. Turns are developed and stamina is supported for the swimmer to transition to the first level of squad.
